The SWAIP Programme

The Master programme Social inclusion and Well-being through the Arts and Interdisciplinary Practices (SWAIP) is a 120 ECTS study line.  

The programme is designed to attract a broad cross-section of students and professionals within arts who are interested in professional development on how the arts can be used in social and health care – both in conventional and unconventional settings.  

The programme is diverse and is based on various courses i.e. art therapy, arts in social settings, research methods and laboratories, along with field training and work. It is also structured to support students‘ individual interests and practice. A significance is laid on action and practice-led research where each student develops their own pathway and final project based on personal interest and experience. Emphasis is also placed on strengthening students' personal skills. Through dialogue and co-operation between disciplines, new ways in mediating arts and working with various vulnerable groups, will be developed.  

Students learn to develop and lead creative projects in diverse community and cross-sectoral settings. Through their work they will develop their leadership skills, reflexivity and collaborative practice in a various social contexts.  

The Master has received funding from the Erasmus+ Programme for its development in cooperation with University of Porto, University of Alicante, University of Hertfordshire, Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, and AEC (The Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
